Turning Tides was developed as part of the University of Ottawa’s Curating for Contemporary Art course, under the mentorship of Professor Celina Jeffery.
The exhibition brings together artists working across performance, photography, installation, and video to address water as a site of inquiry, crisis, and transformation. By confronting passive attitudes toward consumption and environmental degradation, Turning Tides invites viewers to reconsider their ethical relationship to water through the lens of sustainable futures.
Through the work of contemporary artists, the exhibition frames water as both a cultural and ecological a resource increasingly threatened by consumption, pollution, and privatization. Turning Tides reflects on how interconnected local and global issues of water can be visualized through artistic practice.
